Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Joint Replacement at The CORE Institute
What joints are most commonly replaced?
Hips and knees are most common, but we also perform shoulder, ankle, and even wrist replacements for severe joint damage.
When is joint replacement recommended?
When pain limits basic mobility and non-surgical options like injections or PT no longer provide adequate relief.
What nonsurgical treatments are tried before replacement?
We always try PT, weight loss, anti-inflammatories, and joint injections before moving to a full joint replacement.
How long does a joint replacement last?
Expect 20+ years with modern materials. They aren’t indestructible, but they are built for long-term, active use.
What is recovery like after surgery?
It’s focused on movement. You’ll start walking almost immediately. It’s hard work, but the payoff is a life without chronic joint pain.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
Most return to low-impact activities (golf, swimming, biking) within 3 months. High-impact sports are usually discouraged.

Hip Replacement Surgery
“I have been visiting the Core Institute in Mesa, AZ, for a couple of years for treatment. I had hip replacement surgery there, which went exceptionally well! Unfortunately, I have other orthopedic issues that require ongoing care at Core. I have seen Dr. William C. Thompson and Dr. Decomas, along with their team. Despite the pain I have experienced, these professionals have significantly improved my quality of life! Definitely Recommend!”
