Osteoporosis Prevention & Care
Ask our physicians if you’re at risk for osteopenia or osteoporosis. You may have screening tests, such as a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan. This is an imaging test that helps assess the density of your bones. Your doctor can recommend lifestyle changes, exercises, medications, and supplements to increase the strength of your bones.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Bone Health at The CORE Institute
What is osteoporosis and how does it affect my bones?
It is a condition where bones become porous and lose density, significantly increasing the risk of sudden fractures. It makes bones so brittle that even mild stresses like coughing can cause a break.
Am I at risk for osteoporosis or low bone density, and when should I get a bone density (DEXA) scan?
Risk increases with age, family history, and small body frames. Doctors generally recommend a DEXA scan for women age 65+ and men age 70+ to measure bone mineral density and assess fracture risk.
What can I do to strengthen my bones and prevent fractures (diet, supplements, and exercise)?
Eat a diet rich in calcium and Vitamin D, engage in weight-bearing exercises like walking or lifting weights, and avoid smoking or excessive alcohol to maintain structural integrity.
If I already have osteoporosis, what treatment options are available to lower my fracture risk?
Beyond lifestyle changes, treatments include bisphosphonates to slow bone loss or anabolic agents to build new bone. Your provider will tailor a plan based on your DEXA results and medical history.

Shoulder Arthroplasty
“Dr. John Brown just completed my right total shoulder arthroplasty. He will do my left one in three or four months. I trust him implicitly. He is the best doctor I’ve ever had! I am recommending my friends with bad shoulders to visit with Dr. Brown so their lives can be blessed as mine has been through his healing abilities.”

Hip Replacement Surgery
“I have been visiting the Core Institute in Mesa, AZ, for a couple of years for treatment. I had hip replacement surgery there, which went exceptionally well! Unfortunately, I have other orthopedic issues that require ongoing care at Core. I have seen Dr. William C. Thompson and Dr. Decomas, along with their team. Despite the pain I have experienced, these professionals have significantly improved my quality of life! Definitely Recommend!”
