Biography

Norman Chutkan, MD, FACS is a board certified, fellowship-trained and internationally recognized in orthopedic spine surgery. With more than 15 years’ experience, he is an academic orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in complex spinal reconstruction, spine trauma and spinal deformities.

Prior to joining The CORE Institute, Dr. Chutkan served as the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. Aforementioned, he was Associate Professor and Chief of Orthopedic Spine Surgery.

Dr. Chutkan received his fellowship training at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He was subsequently appointed the Co-Director of the spine fellowship program, served as the Residency Program Director and was as Associate Professor for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Chutkan completed his orthopedic residency and internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC where he was awarded Chairman’s Award for Intern of the Year. He obtained his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and was recognized for various awards including George C. Lane Award, Marie Louise Watkins Prize, Dr. Joseph Leland Johnson Award and James F. Mitchell Fellowship. Dr. Chutkan earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Miami.

He is a member of the American Board of Orthopedics Surgery (ABOS), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), National Medical Association (NMA), American College of Surgeons (ACS), Howard University College of Medicine Alumni Association, University of Miami Alumni Association, AO North America, North American Spine Society (NASS), American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), Georgia Orthopaedic Society and American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA).
